What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for 100% permanent hair removal. Unlike laser treatments that target pigmented hairs only, electrolysis destroys the growth center of individual hair follicles using a micro-probe and electrical energy, preventing future growth regardless of skin tone or hair color.

How It Works

Electrolysis uses a very fine probe or filament to send a millisecond timing of treatment energy directly into the follicle, rendering it unable to produce hair.

  • Gentle on Skin: The probe slides into the natural opening of the hair follicle—the skin is not punctured or harmed.

  • Client Comfort: Most people do not have any problem with the sensation. Topical creams are used to desensitize the skin, and stronger numbing products are available to accommodate every comfort level.

What Body Parts Can Be Treated?

Electrolysis can permanently remove unwanted hair from all body parts (except the inner ear and nostrils).

Common treatment goals include:

  • Facial Hair: Eyebrow shaping, upper lip, chin, and hairline adjustment.

  • Body Hair: Underarms, bikini line, legs, chest, and back.

  • Beard Shaping for Men: Cleaning up cheekbones for a crisp beard line, or managing mature hair growth on the ears, back, and eyebrows.

What Causes Hair Growth?

Understanding why hair grows helps guide your personalized treatment plan. Common causes include:

  • Hormones & Physiology: Glandular/hormonal imbalances (including pregnancy), stress, medical conditions, and weight fluctuations.

  • Heredity & Genetics: Natural growth patterns passed down through family lines.

  • Medication Reactions: Side effects from specific prescriptions.

  • Temporary Hair Removal Methods: Tweezing, waxing, threading or plucking can actually stimulate roots, creating thicker hair and worsening the problem over time.

Important Note on Vellus Hair: Once fine, light "vellus" hair changes into dark, coarse "terminal" hair due to internal factors, it will remain coarse even after the underlying medical cause is treated. Only electrolysis can permanently eliminate this converted hair.

Growth Cycle Speed: Fastest- Cycles turn over quickly (~4–8 weeks).

Percentage of Active Hair: High density (~60%–70% active at any given time).

Session Spacing: Every 1 to 2 weeks initially to catch new growth early.

Growth Cycle Speed: Moderate-Slow:- Coarser roots with deeper follicles.

Percentage of Active Hair: Medium density (~30%–40% active).

Session Spacing: Every 3 to 4 weeks.

Growth Cycle Speed: Fastest Moderate- Active growth phase lasts ~3–4 months.

Percentage of Active Hair: Medium density (~30% active).

Session Spacing: Every 2 to 4 weeks.

Growth Cycle Speed:Slowest: Resting phase (telogen) can last 12–24+ weeks.

Percentage of Active Hair:  Low density (~20% active at once).

1. Facial Hair (Upper Lip, Chin, Eyebrows, Hairline)

Facial hair cycles turn over very fast. Because facial follicles are heavily influenced by hormones, a higher percentage of hairs are active on the surface at any one time. Frequent short appointments (every 1–2 weeks) allow us to destroy hairs as soon as they break through the skin surface while the root is at its weakest.

2. Underarms

Underarms have coarse hair with moderate growth cycles. About 30% of underarm hair is in the active growth phase at any given point. Spacing appointments every 2–4 weeks helps clear each batch of hair as new dormant follicles awaken.

3. Bikini Line

Bikini hair features deep, sturdy roots. While it responds very well to treatment, its dormant phase is longer than facial hair. Clearing this area requires regular treatments spaced roughly 3–4 weeks apart to target newly emerging hairs as they transition into the active growth stage.

4. Legs & Arms

Body hair on the legs and arms has a very long dormant (resting) phase—hair can stay asleep under the skin for up to 6 months! Because only about 20% of leg hair is visible at one time, visits are spaced further apart (every 4–6 weeks) to align with these longer cycle intervals.

Aftercare & Side Effects

There are no permanent side effects. If you have sensitive skin, you may experience brief redness or mild tenderness that subsides quickly.

  • Immediate Relief: Ice and post-treatment topicals alleviate sensitivity right away.

  • Healing Boosters: Applying Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, or antibiotic creams helps soothe and heal the skin faster.

  • What to Avoid: Keep the area clean, avoid touching the skin, skip heavy moisturizers or exfoliating creams for a few days, and stay out of the sun (use sunblock).

The Benefits of Electrolysis

  • Save Time & Money: Stop buying temporary hair removal products or spending lifetime dollars on temporary upkeep.

  • Clearer Skin: Eliminate coarse hair, ingrown hairs, and razor bumps for a smooth finish.

  • Total Confidence: Feel self-assured knowing your skin looks smooth, clean, and hair-free at all times.

Hair Growth Cycles & Treatment Schedule

Why a Series of Treatments is Needed

Hair grows in distinct stages: Growth (Anagen), Resting (Telogen), and Transition (Catagen).

Not all hair is visible on the surface of your skin at once. After an active growth phase, follicles enter a dormant stage before producing a replacement hair. Because electrolysis permanently treats hair currently in its active surface stage, treatments are scheduled in repeated intervals. Replacement hairs emerging from dormant follicles are new growth cycles, not regrowth from a previously destroyed follicle. Once the area is cleared, sporadic maintenance visits ensure long-term, hair-free success.

Hair Growth Timelines & Appointment Frequency by Area

Because follicle depth, hair density, and cycle speeds vary depending on the location on your body, your treatment interval will be customized for each specific area:
